Where the scent comes from
Agarwood, also known as aloeswood or oud, comes about through injury. When the aquilaria tree is infected by a particular fungus, it forms a dark, heavy resin in the heartwood as a defence – and only that resin has the scent. Healthy trees smell of nothing. Because only a fraction of trees are affected and the whole process takes years, agarwood is among the most expensive natural raw materials in the world.

When it suits
For meditation, and for evenings when a scent is not meant to just run along in the background. Agarwood is dark and serious – if you are after fresh or floral notes, this is the wrong one. Once you know the scent, you recognise it anywhere.
