The placemats are woven by hand in Nepal and combine traditional craft with natural materials. Depending on the version they are made from cotton combined with jute or with allo, the Nepalese natural fibre.

Allo is obtained from the Himalayan nettle and is one of Nepal's traditional natural fibres. Production takes place in small craft groups, often women's collectives, for whom it provides a sustainable source of income.
