Gheri Fabric Black | Handwoven Cotton Fabric from Nepal

Black and cream white, nothing else: broad bands with the characteristic XOXO motif alternate with fine lines. Only along the selvedge do a few coloured threads show through.

What it suits
The most graphic fabric of the range – it also works where colourful patterns would be too much. The fabric is firm and holds its shape, so bags, cushion covers and table runners keep their form.

– 50 cm for small projects such as bags or cushions
– from 100 cm for clothing or larger sewing projects

Multiple units are supplied as one continuous piece.

How Gheri is made
Gheri is woven on handlooms. Before any weaving can start, the warp threads have to be drawn and tensioned one by one – that alone takes hours. The stripes are not printed on; they come from the arrangement of coloured yarns in the loom. That is why the pattern sits in the fabric rather than on it, and why the reverse is just as colourful as the front.
