Scent & Effect
Scent & Effect
Myrrh as an incense stick – resinous and warm.
Where the scent comes from
Myrrh is harvested like frankincense: the bark of a thorny shrub is scored, the sap runs out and hardens into irregular reddish-brown lumps. The shrubs grow in the dry regions of the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. Myrrh is the darker sister of frankincense – tarter, earthier, less sweet. In antiquity it was so valuable that it was weighed against gold.
When it suits
In winter and for quiet, serious moments. Myrrh is not an everyday scent – there is something ceremonial about it. Good in combination with frankincense, if you burn the two one after the other.
