Where the scent comes from
Camphor is an unusual substance: it forms white crystals and turns straight into vapour when heated, without becoming liquid first. That is why it burns without residue – nothing is left behind. Juniper is the classic incense plant of the Himalayas; in Nepali it is called ‘dhupi’, the same word stem as ‘dhoop’. In Tibetan-influenced regions whole branches of it are burned on open stoves: in the morning, before journeys, at ceremonies.

When it suits
In the morning and while you air the room. Of all the scents in the shop this is the coolest – nothing sweet, nothing heavy.
