What is behind the name
Saffron is the three stigmas of a crocus flower. Each flower carries exactly three, they are picked by hand, and a single kilo takes around 150,000 flowers – picked in the morning, because the flowers are only open for a few hours. That makes saffron the most expensive spice in the world. And it explains why incense does not contain the saffron threads themselves but a fragrance composition that takes up their soft, floral direction. If you are expecting real saffron threads, it is worth knowing.

When it suits
For quiet evenings and special occasions. Saffron as an incense scent is softer and more floral than you would expect from the spice – nothing sharp, nothing kitchen-like.
