Scent & Effect

Ylang ylang as an incense stick – floral and sweet.

Where the scent comes from
The name comes from Tagalog, the language of the Philippines, and means something like ‘flower of flowers’. The tree comes from Southeast Asia; its yellow, long-limbed blossoms are picked before sunrise, because that is when the scent is strongest. In distillation the oil is collected in several passes – the first is the finest, the later ones grow steadily heavier. A scent, then, where it matters when you take it off.

When it suits
In the evening. Ylang ylang is sweet and very present – in small rooms half a stick is enough, or it quickly becomes a lot. If you like jasmine, you will feel at home here.

Scent profile: floral, sweet
