Colourful Coasters | Handwoven from Recycled Cotton

These colourful coasters are made in Nepal from recycled fabric offcuts and cotton. Different strips of fabric are put together anew and worked into small, hard-wearing textiles – something new and unique made from materials that already existed.

Every coaster has its own combination of colours and patterns. No two are exactly alike, which makes each set a small one-off.

The coasters are ideal for glasses, cups or small decorative objects, and bring a touch of colour and sustainable craft to the table.

From what is left over
A coaster measuring 12.5 centimetres square weighs around 20 grams. That little material does not call for a whole bolt of cloth – small pieces like these are traditionally made from the remnants left when larger work is cut out, which would otherwise be of no use to anyone.

That is also why the colour combinations are never planned. They depend on whatever happens to come together in the workshop.

Woven by hand in Nepal, in small craft groups, often by women's collectives.
