Where the scent comes from
Amber is not a plant. In incense the name stands for a direction of scent, not a single ingredient: warm, soft, slightly sweet, usually composed of several resins. It has nothing to do with the fossilised tree resin that is also called amber in English – that is not burned as incense. So anyone buying amber is buying a composition, not a raw material. Which is exactly why amber smells a little different from every maker.

When it suits
In the evening, in winter, in living rooms. Amber is the scent in the shop that comes closest to smelling ‘cosy’ without becoming insistent – well suited to when visitors are coming.
