Scent & Effect
Scent & Effect
Frankincense as an incense stick – resinous and deep.
Where the scent comes from
Frankincense is neither wood nor flower but resin. The bark of the boswellia tree is scored, the sap runs out and hardens in the air into milky golden drops – in the trade they are called ‘tears’. The trees grow in the dry regions of Arabia, East Africa and India. Along the old incense routes the resin reached Europe and East Asia; it is among the oldest traded goods there are.
When it suits
For meditation and quiet hours, in the dark half of the year, on holidays. Frankincense is the scent most people can place immediately – and one of the few that carries in a large room.
