Where the scent comes from
Nag Champa is the best-known incense scent of South Asia, named after the champa blossom. The classic blend includes a soft, honey-like resin called halmaddi, which makes the paste slightly tacky and gives it its characteristic sweetness. Because the tree it is tapped from was overharvested, halmaddi has become scarce – which is why Nag Champa often smells different today than it did in the seventies.
