Where the scent comes from
Juniper is the classic incense plant of the Himalayas. In Nepali it is called ‘dhupi’ – the same word stem as ‘dhoop’, the general word for incense. In Tibetan-influenced regions whole branches are burned on open stoves: in the morning, before journeys, at ceremonies. The shrub grows high up, in places above 4,000 metres, where little else still thrives.

When it suits
In the morning, as a small daily ritual. While you air the room. And if you want to know what incense in Nepal actually smells like – of all the sticks in the shop, this one comes closest to the everyday smell of the mountain villages.
