Scent & Effect
Scent & Effect
Meditation as an incense stick, with sandalwood and guggul – woody and resinous.
Where the scent comes from
Guggul is the less familiar part, and the more interesting one. It is the resin of a thorny shrub that grows in the dry regions of India – a close relative of myrrh, with the same tart, slightly bitter note. In Indian temples guggul has been part of daily incense burning for centuries; it is roughly what frankincense is in a European church. Combined with sandalwood, the tartness is rounded off.
When it suits
Before meditation or yoga practice, when the room needs setting in the right mood. In the morning too, as a fixed starting point – after a few weeks the smell alone is enough to make your head switch over.
