Where the scent comes from
Juniper is one of the few plants that still grow where trees have long given up – in the Himalayas up to above 4,000 metres. It grows extremely slowly, often only a few millimetres a year, and becomes very dense and rich in resin as a result. That is exactly what makes it so usable as an incense plant. In Nepali it is called ‘dhupi’, the same word stem as ‘dhoop’, the general word for incense.

When it suits
In the morning, while airing the room, before meditation. A plain, forest-like scent with no sweetness – if you like Nag Champa you will find it bare; if you like herbs, exactly right.
