Where the scent comes from
Bdellium is a resin hardly anyone knows and yet an ancient one: obtained from thorny shrubs of the genus Commiphora, which is to say the closest relatives of myrrh. Ancient authors name it in the same breath as frankincense and myrrh; in the trade it long went as their cheaper sister. The scent follows suit: resinous, tart, with a distinctly smoky edge. Red sandalwood provides the warm foundation beneath.

When it suits
In the morning, when things may be strong, and in winter. Sunrise is one of the smokiest scents in the shop – if you like things delicate, rose or chamomile is more your thing.
